I had hope I would have been able to start this new issue of Gossip off on a more cheerful note but
unfortunately we have had another two deaths of our older members. The first one is Dennis Oliver. Dennis died on 6th December of Leukaemia, he was a very good friend to Fred, myself and many other society members. Dennis was the Societies Treasurer and worked in Front of House. A lovely man and a real gentleman he will be very sadly missed and
our love goes to Brenda and the rest of his family. Our other loss is Dr. Ahuja who has been the Society Doctor for many years and until his ill health was very supportive of the society, older members will know him as a very happy & friendly gentleman. Our regards go to his family.
Well what a show Frankenstein turned out to be. Better than we could have dreamed it would be. I believe those who came to see our production were surprised at how good it was. The acting was superb, the singing excellent and the whole production was brilliant. Unfortunately ticket sales were very poor and we didn’t even manage to break even., so yet another substantial loss. We are planning to rectify this by putting on a series of concerts
called ‘Everyone’s Favourites’ Larraine Hunter as agreed to be the MD, this should help to build our funds again and enable us to do what we do best, Sing.
The dates of the concerts are:
13/4/13 At Swann Bank Church, Burslem,
4/5/13 All Saints in Leek ,
18/5/13 St Mark’s Church, Basford
1/6/13 to be confirmed.
Please join us even if you cannot make every concert. We would ask that the principles sing together with the chorus and then a song of their own choice. Chorus will be using books, so there won’t be too many words to learn. In fact I would be surprised if you don’t know the words to most of the music. These concerts are going to be good and Larraine Hunter has put a lot of work into the arrangement for the music to ensure we have a brilliant concert.
Your first rehearsal will be: 29th January 7.30pm at the Orme.
We have had two social events since our last show which have been well supported. The ceramic evening was a great success and everyone who joined in were greatly surprised by how well theiritems turned out .
